Prerequisite to understanding the context of this post is the introductory piece: http://jenniferlake.wordpress.com/2009/08/17/colloidal-silver/
The current title is inspired by this document on silver-resistant bacteria: “A note of warning: colonies of bacteria exposed to Ag(l) show black pigmentation that is likely to be reduced metallic Ag(0)...” http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1016/S0168-6445(03)00047-0/full; from the same document:
After writing an initial article on colloidal silver, I met with a barrage of biting retorts here at this blog. It piqued my curiosity. The editor of “Educate Yourself” website, Ken Adachi, launched an attack not only on me but on Dr. Joseph Mercola (http://www.mercola.com) suggesting that Dr. Mercola was ignorantly uninformed for warning his readers that CS could provoke “a severe cytokine storm”. Adachi takes credit for a retraction of that statement by Dr. Mercola –a situation of even greater concern and curiosity. The “cytokine storm”, which is an overreaction of the inflammatory response of the immune system is considered the cause of death in the 1918 Spanish Flu of the “healthy adult” population between 20-40. Mr. Adachi did not simply sqeal like a man getting his pockets picked. He invented an accusation that I’m a “pharmaceutical shill”, that Dr. Mercola is uninformed and under his influence, and that numerous “followers” of his loyally littered my blog with propaganda, to the point of opening false email accounts in my name. I figure I must be ‘over the target’, and that was the first salvo.
But if YOU don’t DIE, then WE can’t have a PANDEMIC, eh?
Since the time of publishing my ‘Colloidal Silver’ article here on the blog and the subsequent reaction, I’ve been following the trail of some of the CS peddlars. The corridors advance down paperless pathways to areas of ‘guilt by association’, and the implications are potentially enormous and dangerous to follow but more than that, the layers of deception are preventively daunting and confusing as is ever the case. Such is the war upon you. “All war is deception” –Sun Tzu.

Excerpts from the link above, regarding ingested colloidal silver:
..”silver nanoparticles can make adhesive interactions with cellular membranes and produce highly reactive and toxic radicals like reactive oxygen species which will cause inflammation and destroy cells like mitochondria..”
..”Silver affects denitrification bacteria such strongly that, in reality, disrupts the bacterium driven environmental denitrification processes..” [necessary in balancing microbial mitigation of the ecosystem; no real ecologist could support silver microbecides in the environment, and no real doctor/healer or health authority could support it in You beyond a critical life-saving measure]
..[nanosilver] can enter through the blood-brain barrier and accumulate in large motorneurones in the brain stem and spinal cord, neurons in cerebellar nuclei and glia…it is now known that the biological half-life of silver in the CNS is longer than in other organs..”
“It is known and acknowledged that long-term use of colloidal silver or silver salts..deposit metallic silver under the skin and abdominal viscera…manic depressive psychosis will develop at about the same time if not a short time after cutaneous argyria has been diagnosed. It leads to a ruptured aortic aneurysm and finally death.”
..”It shows toxic effects on human-friendly microbes..[in the environment]. These organisms deliver many crucial nutrients which are most essential in soil formation..”

Dr. Mercola is recommending safe colloidal silver usage:

Just my point –”of greater concern and curiosity”. The man just warned us off of CS recently in no uncertain terms. He has many older archived articles on dosage and use, but clearly changed his mind about selling CS products. Now do you think trotting out another ‘safe dose’ use article on CS means something?

When you search his site for “colloidal silver” there are 18 results and the one I referenced was the most recent on the topic, posted in Feb. by Dr. Mercola. I personally get some wonderful results from this product, actually the one that is EPA approved and nano Silver Shield version, so I’m in favor of people doing their research.
Silver Shield has been EPA designated as non-toxic (EPA# K043106), has a U.S. patent for safe technology (Patent # 7135195), and is FDA approved in the gel form.
I prefer natural alternatives when I can get them, so I’m grateful for the internet to research things … which is how I came upon your website.

By the way, Jennifer, I totally agree that there are some dangerous forms of silver out there and that people misuse natural supplements as much as they do drugs … but that’s where the time invested to research provides me with the safe way to go.
People turning gray is a real thing! And it’s an AWFUL thing! And trying to make your own sounds rather scary to me, but I know it’s a popular thing to do. I guess if you’re only using a small amt. it wouldn’t matter, but for the health issues I have I need larger doses and something that is researched NOT to store in the body after it does it’s great work.

Donna,
I’m sorry, are you are burn victim? Maybe you would share the condition that requires you to take/use colloidal silver. You’re anonymity is safeguarded here. What was your doctor’s advice?
Comment by jenniferlake — October 20, 2009 @ 3:43 pm |
Donna,
Colloidal silver has been shown to leave the body in certain studies I’ve seen, but can’t it cross the blood-brain barrier? That’s what’s gotten me wary of ever using it again. We all know what accumulated metals in the brain can do.

Donna,
I want to help you with your research –please see this article, Warning Letter from the FDA about “Silver Shield” which is an action order sent June 5, 2009 that required immediate measures for correction. “The FDA has determined that you offer a product for sale that has not been approved, cleared, or otherwise authorized by FDA…If your firm fails to take corrective action immediately, FDA may take enforcement action, such as seizure or injunction…FDA is advising consumers not to purchase or use H1N1 Flu-related products that have not been approved, cleared, or authorized by FDA. Your firm will be added to a published list on FDA’s website..that have received warning letters from FDA..in violation of the FFDC Act”. etc.
http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/EnforcementActions/WarningLetters/ucm167702.htm I visited some Silver Shield distributors just now and saw no claims of FDA approval, so I assume they’ve eliminated those statements in compliance with the warning letters. People using these products do so at their own risk and the FDA’s position is crystal clear.
I hope you will continue your research and assessment of risk regarding your serious medical condition. Read through the ‘havel’ document for the references –these citations are extensive and will help you understand the harm, and everything pertinent is online, just like the FDA warnings, then stay tuned for more information about the electro-magnetic nanotech applications and the enviromental hazards which are unduly obscured because of the ethical implications of human/animal experimentation, issues which concern me very much. There are many articles here in my blog to point you toward natural food resources that have therapeutic value and others of paradigm-shifting importance in re-balancing our health and understanding of ecology, especially the concepts of German New Medicine. Look forward to much more of this! –JL

It’s good the FDA is shutting down the sites that provide misleading claims. You’re also not talking about the same thing when comparing colloidal silver to the silver sol process. It doesn’t store in the body which is why the EPA approves it as safe technology and non-toxic. This is a website with a lot of research on it: http://www.aquasolsilver.com
No, I’m not a burn victim, I am working on a microbial auto-immune inflammatory issue.

The FDA apparently hasn’t caught up with the one you posted yet, although there is enough information there to begin an investigation, and I suggest you might want to do that right away. The man who inspired you, Gordon Pedersen, is not an MD but he is a well-known multi-level marketing personality according to http://www.bluetoad.com/article/New_Kid_On_The_Block/43049/0/article.html where you can look into his previous company and consultant activities, such as the “The Bionic Band”, a polypropylene webbing bracelet made with copper “which causes the body’s protons to realign”!! and will heal you from electromagnetic pollution according to it’s distributor, Perfect World Solutions, and its officers, Robert J. Bogue and Barry Cohen.
Bogue was previously founder of Ompus/FreeDinar, selling Iraqi currency (before 2001, I wonder?) and Cohen was a merchant in supplements, real estate, and Chinese product importation.

“Dr.” Pedersen is working for the silver mining industry, Clifton Mining, which created American Biotech Labs to promote silver products. http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/abl-appoints-chief-science-officer58271067.html His doctorate is from Utah State U in the field of toxicology. –correction, he has an M.S. in toxicology, viewable here, http://toxicology.usu.edu/alumni90to99.htm ,his dissertation was the effects of ginseng in humans and mice.

Hi Kolnidre,
My readings have shown it does cross the blood brain barrier … at least the nano kind which is most of what I’ve been studying since it’s what I’m using. But I’ve heard a lecture by Dr. Pedersen who has piles of research studies on this already … and he explains that it cannot store in the body. Compared to drugs and their effects, I’m not at all concerned. I used various natural supplements for 15 years to avoid the drugs (prescription and OTC), but nothing has done as well as this product. To each his own … I’m all for people living their own lives.
Comment by Donna — October 20, 2009 @ 8:57 pm |
Your concerns are much appreciated, Jennifer. Compared to those I know that are using MD’s I’m doing EXTREMELY well. Beyond the diagnosis, they have nothing I’m willing to do.
I know Dr. Pedersen is a PhD, in toxicology I think, and he’s the developer of the product I believe. But it’s the documented medical research he references that I go by … not just what he says.
Thanks so much for the chatting back and forth
Hubby’s birthday weekend is coming up and we’re heading out of town before winter hits us. Enjoy life!

I know my readers will be interested to know more about Clifton Mining and American Biotech Labs in its role as a defense contractor, and two very special members of its Board, Col. Robert Saum and Col. Allen Moloff who are respectively current and past presidents of SOMA, the military’s Special Operations Medical Association. Col.(Bob)Saum was the interagency coordinator for Homeland Security.
http://www.cliftonmining.com/shareholder2007Summary.html SOMA’s 2007 meeting which is a veritable tradeshow for product developers to display their items is here http://www.trueresearch.org/soma/2007/files/program.pdf (wayback machine may engage for this)
From my experience with polio research, the military is still quite keen on civilian experimentation,(it was considered unethical to experiment on soldiers during wartime back then) and interestingly enough, polio vaccine experiments were generated from the same basic locale –the east and south of the Great Salt Lake, Utah…where Pedersen is working from. The colloidal silver products were developed for battlefield situations, I surmise. I would want them also if a grenade had just taken off my leg. The only studies available to read so far involve 124 patients in Africa who had severe cases of malaria and dengue fever and unremitting infections.
Have a nice time –where do you go? I know the big colloidal silver conventions are usually in Las Vegas and Orlando. Do you winter there as well?

Oh! meant to mention before after looking around your blog … we’re vegetarians also for over 30 yrs. That makes a huge difference in my health for sure. What they’ve been doing in the meat industry is weird, wacky and definitely not to be consumed.
Comment by Donna — October 21, 2009 @ 4:11 am |
Well, the vegetable scene is just as weird, in fact most of the CS research was generated with plants and soil microbes until the Atomic Energy Commission approved experimentation with animals and humans. Take it easy, and take some Vitamin D3 if you limit sun exposure because I’ve read sunshine will bring out the blueing effects of colloidal silver in some people, and unfortunately it’s permanent.

For those of you who would like to detox colloidal silver; RAW MILK has the benefits of chelation, active immune factors, essential intestinal flora, plus cell building nutrition. It is lawful if you have ‘ownership’ in a healthy dairy animal. To find out more about how the dairy industry has been and continues to be destroyed in the US, read “The Ruination of Milk”, accessed at http://www.rocfern.com/jennlake/index.html

Thanks for this post. I’ve taken flak from friends on my reluctance to use the nano-silver impregnated cloth and colloidal silver, and this post identifies many of my concerns. Another “magic bullet” that is anything but a miracle cure.

This nanobiotechnology report from 2003, compiled by experts, describes a “seed” (microchip-type) technology for implantation in therapeutic treatment. (see pages 31-32 of the document) The seed delivers radiation to the tissues that surround it by binding radioactive iodine to silver, set inside a grain-of-rice type of capsule. The nanotech process of depositing the radioisotope is instructive. With the advancing ability to engineer self-constructing substrates, this ought to be an eye-opener for colloidal silver consumers: ..”in order to bind Iodine-125 (which is a gamma-emitter with a half-life of 60 days), either silver is deposited onto the carrier, or the carrier is completely made from thin silver wire. By using a chemical precipitation reaction, the I-125 is bound onto the surface of the carrier… For example..only 60 ng of the pure I-125 isotope is needed to react with the silver carrier… As the silver is fixed on a solid carrier [such as alumina nanotubules in this example], the silver surface significantly determines the rate of reaction and the final yield [of the bound radioisotope]. A nanoscale silver surface is, for those reasons, of great benefit. Nanoporous alumina offers a natural nanometer-size cavity in which silver can be deposited. This process is very well established; starting from silver nitrate solution, silver wires can be formed starting at the base of the pores by applying alternating current… The silver nanowires react easily with the Iodine 125. The yield of the labeling [deposition] process with I-125 using the silver nanowires may be up to 98%, the maximum capacity of uptake is far above that of any therapeutic dose..” http://vbspu.academia.edu/VipinMishra/Books/100963/Nanobiotechnology-Concepts_Applications_and_Perspectives
Imagine if you will such an application of nanosilver to a substrate not encapsulated –freely growing, in other words, like crystals in a liquid chemical medium.
Furthermore, perusing microelectronic literature turns up examples of silver-compound molecules specifically in use for infrared frequency transmission:
“For mid-infrared (and partly also terahertz) generation, one requires crystal materials with a transparency range extending far into the infrared spectral region. The most important of these media are zinc germanium diphosphide (ZGP, ZnGeP2), silver gallium sulfide and selenide (AgGaS2 and AgGaSe2), gallium selenide (GaSe), and cadmium selenide (CdSe). Gallium arsenide (GaAs) has also become useful for mid-infrared applications, since it is possible to obtain quasi phase-matching in orientation-patterned GaAs [20, 21].” http://www.rp-photonics.com/nonlinear_crystal_materials.html
Terahertz devices that exploit the infrared (IR) range of wavelengths are bursting onto the commercial marketplace, beginning in the awareness of most people as the airport body scanners. Recent news is indicating that new cell phones are operating in this range. The Pentagon has been installing its new Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) satellite system (since 2010) that also operates in this range.
